Oyejoke Oke is a female producer/ director / writer of Nigerian descent. She is also the founder and CEO of Black Thread Media, a Nigerian movie production company and the producer and writer of this movie Love Lies and Lasgidi.


Hi Oyejoke, nice to meet you and thanks for granting us this interview.


How was born your passion for the world of cinema?

Black Thread Media is an expression of my passion for the world of cinema, which began with a desire to tell Nigerian and African stories in an authentic yet entertaining way. At Black Thread Media we believe that film is a powerful medium that can inspire, educate, and entertain audiences around the world.

What was your first movie?

Our first movie is Love Lies and Lasgidi, which we have just submitted to the film festival. It’s a romantic drama that explores the complexities of modern relationships and the challenges of finding love and pursuing your dreams in the bustling city of Lagos.

What is, for you, the main difficulties to produce an independent feature film?

As an independent production company, the main difficulties we face when producing a feature film include securing funding, finding talented actors and crew members, managing the logistics of production, and competing for distribution and exhibition opportunities in a crowded market.

What advice would you give an aspiring filmmaker?

Our advice to aspiring filmmakers is to be persistent, creative, and collaborative. It’s important to develop a clear vision for your project, build a strong team of collaborators, and be willing to adapt and problem-solve as you encounter challenges along the way.

Tell us about Love Lies and Lasgidi.

“Love Lies and Lasgidi” is a captivating romantic drama with an intriguing plot that follows the lives of four females, Chioma, Tola, Kemi and Sabina, who are bound by love, heartbreak, friendship and the complexities of navigating relationships in the modern age in the city of Lagos.  

Love Lies and Lasgidi” is a captivating romantic drama with an intriguing plot that follows the lives of four females, Chioma, Tola, Kemi and Sabina, who are bound by love, heartbreak, friendship and the complexities of navigating relationships in the modern age in the city of Lagos.  Chioma is a successful fashion designer who is struggling to mend her heart and balance her busy career. Tola is a beautiful journalist who is married to her job, but secretly yearns for someone to share her life with. Sabina is a single mother and entrepreneur running a successful catering business and is ready to take the dating world by storm. Finally, Kemi is a spiritual and shy artist looking for true love.  The movie takes the viewers on a journey through the ups and downs of modern relationships, exploring themes such as love, trust, ambition, and sacrifice.  Who amongst us has not felt the grief of unrequited love, the corruption of jealousy, the sting of betrayal, the ecstasy of new love?  These are feelings essential and integral to the human condition, they cross barriers of age, distance and language and connect us on a primal level.  This connection is what Love Lies and Lasgidi is about.

You created a movie production company in Nigeria, the Black Thread Media. What is your mission?

Our mission as Black Thread Media is to produce high-quality, authentic, and entertaining films that showcase the diversity and richness of Nigerian and African cultures and experiences. We believe that film can be a powerful tool for social transformation and economic development, and we are committed to creating opportunities for talented filmmakers and artists in the region.

What is the situation of African Film Industry?

The African film industry is growing rapidly, with a vibrant and diverse range of voices and stories emerging from across the continent. However, the industry also faces significant challenges, including lack of funding, limited distribution and exhibition opportunities, and a lack of infrastructure and professional development programs.

What are your future projects?

As an emerging production company, we have several exciting projects in development, including a documentary series, a thriller, and a romantic comedy to name just a few.

Any final thoughts at the end of this interview?

We would like to thank you for this opportunity to share our story and our love for cinema. We believe that film has the power to change hearts and minds, and we are excited to be a part of a growing industry that is making meaningful contributions to Nigerian and African culture and society.
